Can I type a number with commas?
Yes. The tool accepts both 1000 and 1,000. It strips out commas before doing any calculations, so both inputs give the same result.
Does it work with decimals?
Yes. Decimal numbers are fully supported. The spelled out version will say "point" followed by each digit after the decimal.
How big can the number be?
The tool works with very large numbers, but JavaScript can only represent integers exactly up to 9,007,199,254,740,991. Numbers larger than that may lose precision.
Can I use negative numbers?
Yes. Negative numbers work the same way. The spelled out version will say "negative" at the start.
What is scientific notation used for?
Scientific notation is a compact way to write very large or very small numbers. Instead of writing 0.000000123, you write 1.23 x 10^-7. It is commonly used in science, engineering, and mathematics.
